Betsy Hoying

Hi, I’m Betsy, the owner of Children’s Art Classes in Rancho Carmel—and honored to bring the first studio to San Diego County.

Creativity has always been central to my life, both personally and throughout my career building brands, developing products, and mentoring young professionals. In recent years, I felt a pull to create something more personal—something rooted in creativity, connection, and my local community.

Living in San Diego, I’m constantly inspired by the beauty, creativity, and energy all around us. I opened this studio to create a welcoming place where kids can explore their creativity, build real artistic skills, and grow in confidence—and where every child feels they belong.

I’m so proud of the studio and the community of artists and teachers who have helped bring it to life. I look forward to welcoming you and your child in person!

Sandy White

Sandy is an artist, educator, and enthusiastic member of San Diego’s creative community. From the very beginning of our studio journey, she has been an invaluable partner—sharing her local knowledge, creative ideas, and passion for helping build a place where young artists can truly belong.

With more than a decade of experience teaching art to children, Sandy loves creating a classroom where creativity, curiosity, and confidence flourish. She is a teaching artist with Mosaic Theatricals and Art Reach Foundation and has previously taught with Monart School of Art, where she specialized in guided drawing, mixed media, and age-appropriate art instruction. She believes every child is an artist and delights in encouraging students to explore new materials, develop their unique style, and discover the joy of making art.

As a practicing artist, Sandy draws inspiration from the vibrant San Diego arts community and enjoys sharing that excitement with her students. Whether introducing a new technique or celebrating a child’s latest masterpiece, she brings warmth, encouragement, and genuine enthusiasm to every class.

Thea Hurwitz

Thea is an artist and educator who believes creativity is universal—and that every child deserves the opportunity to discover and value their own creative voice.

She graduated summa cum laude from New York University, where she designed her own concentration exploring art education, accessibility, and child development. Since then, Thea has brought joyful, engaging art experiences to children and families in schools, museums, libraries, camps, and community programs across New York and the Bay Area.

A practicing artist herself, Thea loves working across many mediums, including painting, printmaking, textiles, and ceramics. She brings that same spirit of curiosity and exploration into the classroom, encouraging young artists to experiment, express themselves, and grow in confidence.

And when she’s not making art, you may find Thea singing or playing the ukulele!

Thea is delighted to be part of our studio community and to help each young artist discover the joy of creating.
